<b>DESIGN</b><br />
Much has been made of the two doors one side, one door the other
design. Suffice to say it's a talking point and one that guarantees the
car a place in motoring history. In practice, the concept works just
fine and after the first few days, you probably won't even notice
anymore. The car itself is a knockout from any angle.<br />
But dare we say the rear is a bit busy and could do with some
simplification? The dash and interior trim could also do with some
dressing up. Some sporty garnishes wouldn't go astray and the removal in
this model of the contrasting silver trim has unfortunately created a
dash that is drab and devoid of colour.<br />
<b>SAFETY</b><br />
Five stars. Hyundai is not interested in bringing any car here that
doesn't achieve a full five-star safety rating and has been proactive in
making sure they make the grade. Gets six airbags and a full complement
of safety systems, including electronic traction and stability control.<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDx_6UZyb_V1n6vRAzF0DCPEIzTzjVyqNMBA2yjZ_zIXMOE_ixlrgWgaFmX1fplj-QKvycdD9y4nOd4eTZAe8H6nOqUPwXECWBNgjEygRF7Voa-yIy-DnV-Eou4esu9HKRn2Vv32eIbTpY/s1600/Veloster-Turbo-2_2354070b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="398" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDx_6UZyb_V1n6vRAzF0DCPEIzTzjVyqNMBA2yjZ_zIXMOE_ixlrgWgaFmX1fplj-QKvycdD9y4nOd4eTZAe8H6nOqUPwXECWBNgjEygRF7Voa-yIy-DnV-Eou4esu9HKRn2Vv32eIbTpY/s640/Veloster-Turbo-2_2354070b.jpg" width="640" /></a><b>TECHNOLOGY</b><br />
The 1.6-litre twin scroll turbo delivers 150kW of power and 265Nm of
torque, compared with the standard model's 103kW/166Nm. It's the same
engine, featuring 16 valves and the latest gasoline direct injection
technology but the turbo version operates at a lower compression.<br />
That's 46 per cent more power and 60 per cent more torque. The Turbo
produces its torque much lower in the rev range too from 1750 revs
compared to 4850 for the standard car. To be clear, the turbo's auto is a
traditional slush box unlike the standard Veloster and Veloster Plus
that gets a dual clutch system (DCT).<br />
As yet the faster changing DCT can't cope with the extra torque of the
turbo, but they're working on it. Fuel economy is a claimed 6.8
litres/100km for the manual (we got 8.5) and 7.6 litres/100km for the
auto (we got 8.0).<br />
<b>DRIVING</b><br />
We had the opportunity to drive the auto and manual back to back. The
manual is a sweet thing, with a slick, surprisingly mature gear change
that falls easily to hand. But the Turbo is not quite a hot hatch, with
times in the high 6s for the auto and low 7s for the manual.<br />
In fact, you could argue that it's not really a hatch at all but you
get the picture. Nevertheless it provides plenty of performance and more
importantly is a ball of fun to drive. If you're a city driver, you're
going to be more interested in the 6-speed auto which includes paddle
shifts. It's not bad but falls short of the snappy, intuitive change
that the new Cruze delivers with its second generation auto.<br />
<b>VERDICT</b><br />
Like it. Like it a lot. There's still room for improvement and it will
be interesting to see where Hyundai takes this car but in the meantime
there's no reason to hold back on buying one.<br />

<b>DESIGN</b><br />
Styling is sleek and swoopy from its chiselled eagle-eyed front to its
sculptured flanks and tapered tail. And the interior has a stylish
layout, quality trim, easy controls, copious storage and snug seats
front and rear. More a sports wagon than a load lugger, the big cargo
area includes a full-size spare tyre.<br />
<b>SAFETY</b><br />
Standard safety features are nine airbags, stability control with emergency brake system and cornering brake control,<br />
<b>DRIVING</b><br />
On test, the turbo diesel proved to be frugal and willing. It
accelerates smoothly, has respectable mid-range thrust and cruises
quietly. If you could drive Hyundai's i40 blindfolded you could be
forgiven for thinking you were in a premium European car. It's not
surprising considering it was designed in Germany. Gripes are few. The
high waistline and small rear window impair rear vision, the base model
needs rear parking sensors, and there's no sat-nav.<br />
<b>VERDICT</b><br />
The i40 has that secure, warm and inviting feel expected of a Euro brand and has a smooth ride and confident handling.<br />

The Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) provides
consumers with independent and transparent information on the level of
occupant and pedestrian protection provided by different new car models,
in the most common types of crashes, through its star rating program. <br /><br />ANCAP
safety ratings are determined based on a series of internationally
recognised crash tests, with vehicles awarded an ANCAP safety rating of
between 1 to 5 stars indicating the level of safety they provide in the
event of a crash and their ability, through technology, to avoid a
crash. ANCAP is committed to raising the bar on vehicle safety. <br /><br />ANCAP
is supported by the Australian and New Zealand motoring clubs,
Australian Federal, State and Territory governments, the New Zealand
government, the Victorian Transport Accident Commission, NRMA Insurance
and the FIA Foundation. <br />
<br />
ANCAP buys and tests cars that are available to Australian and
New Zealand consumers. Car manufacturers can examine the test cars
before and after tests, and view the tests and results. <br /><br />ANCAP uses a range of internationally recognised crash tests, undertaken by specialist laboratories.<br />
These include: <br />
<h2>
Frontal offset test</h2>
The frontal offset test simulates hitting another car of the same
mass travelling at the same speed. 40% of the car, on the driver’s
side, makes contact with a crushable aluminium barrier at 64km/h.
Dummies in the vehicle indicate the likely injuries resulting from the
crash test. <br />
<img alt="image showing the frontal offset test" height="374" src="http://www.howsafeisyourcar.com.au/Rating-Process/What-is-ANCAP/%7E/media/DIAGRAM%20-%20frontal%20offset.jpg?w=467&h=306&as=1" style="height: 306px; width: 467px;" width="527" /> <br />
<h3>
</h3>
<h2>
Side impact test</h2>
The side impact test consists of running a 950kg trolley into the
driver’s side of the vehicle at 50km/h. The trolley has a crushable
aluminium face to simulate the front of another vehicle. <br />
<h3>
<img alt="image showing side impact test" height="362" src="http://www.howsafeisyourcar.com.au/Rating-Process/What-is-ANCAP/%7E/media/DIAGRAM%20-%20side%20impact.jpg?w=462&h=280&as=1" style="height: 280px; width: 462px;" width="593" /></h3>
<h3>
</h3>
<h2>
Pole impact test </h2>
In the pole test the car is propelled sideways at 29km/h into a
rigid pole aligned with the driver’s head. The pole is relatively
narrow, resulting in major penetration into the side of the car. Curtain
airbags are particularly effective in reducing the chance of serious
head injury in this type of crash.<br />
<img alt="image showing pole impact test" height="362" src="http://www.howsafeisyourcar.com.au/Rating-Process/What-is-ANCAP/%7E/media/DIAGRAM%20-%20pole%20test.jpg?w=467&h=298&as=1" style="height: 298px; width: 467px;" width="583" /><br />
<h2>
Pedestrian test </h2>
The pedestrian tests are carried out to estimate head and leg
injuries to pedestrians struck by a vehicle at 40km/h. These crashes
represent about 15% of fatal crashes in Australia and New Zealand - as
high as 30% in some urban areas. <br />
<img alt="image showing pedestrian test" height="356" src="http://www.howsafeisyourcar.com.au/Rating-Process/What-is-ANCAP/%7E/media/DIAGRAM%20-%20pedestrian%20test.jpg?w=468&h=320&as=1" style="height: 320px; width: 468px;" width="667" /> <br />
<h2>
Whiplash test</h2>
The whiplash test is conducted in two parts - a geometric
measurement of the head restraint, and a dynamic test using the vehicle
seat mounted to a test sled which simulates a rear-end crash equivalent
to a stationary vehicle being hit at 32km/h. <br />
<img alt="image showing whiplash test" height="1297" src="http://www.howsafeisyourcar.com.au/Rating-Process/What-is-ANCAP/%7E/media/DIAGRAM%20-%20whiplash%20test.jpg?w=471&h=311&as=1" style="height: 311px; width: 471px;" width="1219" /> <br />
<h3>
</h3>
<h2>
</h2>
<h2>
Roof crush test (from 2014)</h2>
The roof crush test is conducted to ensure occupant survival
space is maintained during a rollover crash. A solid metal plate is
pushed against the front corner of the roof at a constant, slow speed
and the resistance force measured. <br />
<img alt="image showing the roof crush test" height="1214" src="http://www.howsafeisyourcar.com.au/Rating-Process/What-is-ANCAP/%7E/media/DIAGRAM%20-%20roof%20crush%20test.jpg?w=470&h=285&as=1" style="height: 285px; width: 470px;" width="1541" /> <br />
Additionally, vehicles are required to have a minimum number of
safety assist (collision avoidance) technologies as part of the overall
safety assessment.<br />
<h2>
How are the tests scored?</h2>
ANCAP scores out of a possible 37 points.<br />
<ul>
<li>The frontal offset and side impact tests can earn up to 16 points each </li>
<li>At least 12.5 points in each of the frontal offset and side
impact tests must be achieved to earn a 5 star ANCAP safety rating </li>
<li>The pole test can earn an extra two points </li>
<li>Intelligent seat belt reminders can also earn up to 3 bonus points to help improve a star rating </li>
<li>At least 32.5 points must be achieved overall (with at least
one point scored from the pole test) to earn a 5 star safety rating </li>
<li>From 2008, cars must be equipped with Electronic Stability Control (ESC) to earn a 5 star ANCAP safety rating </li>
<li>To achieve a 5 star ANCAP safety rating from 2013, cars must
be equipped with ESC, 3-point seat belts for all forward facing seats,
head-protecting technology (side airbags) for front seats, seat belt
reminders for front seats and electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD)
as well as 3 additional safety assist technologies (SAT) such as
autonomous emergency braking (AEB), adaptive cruise control (ACC), blind
spot monitoring (BSM) etc. </li>
<li>The requirements for each star rating will increase year on
year as identified in ANCAP's Rating Road Map. The Road Map
progressively raises the bar for safety ratings for the forward-looking
five-year period promoting continuous improvement in vehicle safety.</li>
</ul>
<br />
<h2>
<img alt="image showing ANCAP rating calculation" height="1123" src="http://www.howsafeisyourcar.com.au/Rating-Process/What-is-ANCAP/%7E/media/GRAPHIC%20-%20ANCAP%20Safety%20Rating%20Calculation%20Chart.jpg?w=514&h=323&as=1" style="height: 323px; width: 514px;" width="1528" /></h2>
<h2>
Other NCAPs</h2>
Similar crash testing programs are conducted in the USA, Japan,
Korea, Europe, China, Latin America and South-East Asia however
international crash test results are to be used as a guide only, as the
structure and equipment of overseas models may differ from that of the
Australian or New Zealand car of the same name.<br />

The Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) has awarded the <a href="http://www.livelifedrive.com/malaysia/proton-cars">Proton</a>
Exora with a four-star safety rating, prior to its official debut in
Australia this month. In addition to this, the five-star safety rating
that was awarded to the <a href="http://www.livelifedrive.com/malaysia/new-cars/overview/4607/2013-proton-suprima-s-hatchback">2013 Proton Suprima S</a> has been officially declared by ANCAP – despite them still not having tested the car themselves.<br />
<strong>Proton Exora Crash Test Result</strong><br />
The <a href="http://www.livelifedrive.com/malaysia/new-cars/overview/2079/2013-proton-exora-mpv">2013 Proton Exora</a>
1.6-litre model was sampled for the crash test, scoring 26.37 out of
maximum 37 points. In the frontal offset test, The Exora’s driver’s
chest and leg protection were deemed as “acceptable” and “marginal”
respectively, whereas the side impact performance was considered as
“good”. The Australian-spec Exora comes standard with dual-frontal
airbags, side airbags with thorax and head protection (not available in
Malaysia), but misses out on the rear curtain airbags.<br />
ANCAP chairman, Lauchlan McIntosh said, “It is encouraging to see
better performance by Proton particularly in relation to the Suprima
result, but clearly more work needs to be done on the Exora to improve
safety.”<br />
“The lack of rear curtain airbags is also of concern for a people mover
which will inevitably be marketed to families,” he added.<br />
<strong>Suprima S Receives Five-Star ANCAP Safety Rating</strong><br />
The Proton Suprima S that has yet to arrive in Australia (where the
ANCAP is based) was awarded with a maximum five-star safety rating today
in a news report on the ANCAP’s website. The rating earned by the
Suprima S is based on Proton presenting data from its independent tests
carried out locally, along with highlighting the structural similarities
of the Suprima S and the five-star Preve, to the ANCAP.<br />

We all know that the Malaysian launch of the 2013 Toyota Vios
is just around the corner, but it’s good to have confirmation. UMW
Toyota has done so by putting up a new cover picture on the Toyota
Malaysia Facebook page, and we’ve just received a press release
announcing that new Vios is now open for booking, ahead of its <b>official
launch in October. </b><br />
Most importantly, estimated prices have been announced too, ranging from <b>RM73,200</b> for the base 1.5J manual to <b>RM93,200</b> for the range topping 1.5 TRD Sportivo. Check out how each variant’s new price compares to that of the equivalent outgoing car in the table below. <br />

The new model carries a tag line of <b>“Value Beyond Belief”</b>, featuring
“class above fuel economy and high performance along with the safety and
durability that Toyota is known for.” Also claimed is an interior with
high quality materials, a more spacious cabin with improved legroom,
larger trunk capacity, plus enhanced comfort and handling stability. <br />
Earlier this month, we showed you scans of the Malaysian Vios spec sheet<a href="http://paultan.org/2013/08/06/2013-toyota-vios-malaysia-specs/" target="_blank"></a> along with pics of the local specs cars<a href="http://paultan.org/2013/08/06/2013-toyota-vios-malaysia-specs/" target="_blank"></a>, as posted on our sister classifieds site <i><a href="http://www.oto.my/?display=list" target="_blank">oto.my</a></i>.
As confirmed today, five variants are to be introduced – the baseline
1.5J in both manual and auto guise, a 1.5E, 1.5G auto and a
range-topping 1.5 TRD Sportivo version.<br />

Common to all trim levels is the familiar 1.5 litre 1NZ-FE, which
produces 109 PS at 6,000 rpm and 141 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm, paired
to the tried and trusted four-speed auto (or five-speed manual in the
1.5J MT). <br />
We now have the official local spec/equipment breakdown as well as
the kit list, which includes new things like a push start button and the
optional touch-screen DVD-AVN unit with reverse camera and voice
command.<br />

Honda Malaysia officially launched the new Honda Accord. The ninth-generation Accord<a href="http://paultan.org/2013/08/31/honda-accord-test-drive-thailand/" target="_blank"></a> enters the D-segment sedan market
as a CKD locally-assembled model in three variants – 2.0 VTi, 2.0 VTi-L
and the range topping 2.4 VTi-L. The previous two Accords were launched
in Malaysia with a V6 option, but there will be no six-pot this time
around. <br />
The outgoing Accord
(ASEAN gets the same body as North America) had a very large body, and
Honda’s surveys pointed them to the path of a smaller footprint – at
4,870 mm, this car is 80 mm shorter overall than the outgoing Accord,
and its wheelbase length of 2,775 mm is 25 mm less than before. Coupled
to the fact that it’s slightly wider (+5 mm) and lower (-10 mm), the new
Accord looks slimmer and more athletic in the metal.<br />
<br />
Despite the smaller exterior dimensions, the new Accord’s cabin is
bigger than the already capacious interior of the eighth-gen car, thanks
to improved packaging and redesigned seats. Rear legroom is up by 35.5
mm, and the vast boot holds 23 litres more than before – the space on
offer is really impressive.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhy-DYWxGLjzxZO1CUiwbSYmNFcd-_DLGfRgP8jApJwbqoayr01_XaAClGOV4vLHnvO7mE9lrM_3E1KnlbxfK3CAXUHEL7DZpoxQxtAfXZ7EXopzgrCuXf4AI32fgCMwBBF-LQxOmB_In8W/s1600/Honda-Accord-002-850x579.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="410" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhy-DYWxGLjzxZO1CUiwbSYmNFcd-_DLGfRgP8jApJwbqoayr01_XaAClGOV4vLHnvO7mE9lrM_3E1KnlbxfK3CAXUHEL7DZpoxQxtAfXZ7EXopzgrCuXf4AI32fgCMwBBF-LQxOmB_In8W/s640/Honda-Accord-002-850x579.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Under the hood, there’s a new powerplant in the form of the 2.4 litre Earth Dreams Technologyengine, which makes 175 hp at 6,200 rpm and 225 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. <br />
The new DOHC i-VTEC unit replaces the long-serving K24A engine, which
made 180 PS at 6,500 rpm and 222 Nm at 4,300 rpm in the previous Accord
2.4. Both max power and torque figures are now made lower in the rev
range (300 rpm lower in both cases) and the EDT unit is lighter by 6%
and more fuel-efficient by 7%, according to Honda. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHc8anRj1s3dRxoyOhedTHuREo0Ot2krPWg5f5uwsMGyOxmcbuEjZBMI8FhYLLdbJyYdlWT3bNoTNeNBCEsf8Kl14mo3nyp2WvCCn5RcusmN7arlASDVmsvUCzu4krJGmQE_ceB1Uhvk67/s1600/Honda-Accord-005-850x568.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="404" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHc8anRj1s3dRxoyOhedTHuREo0Ot2krPWg5f5uwsMGyOxmcbuEjZBMI8FhYLLdbJyYdlWT3bNoTNeNBCEsf8Kl14mo3nyp2WvCCn5RcusmN7arlASDVmsvUCzu4krJGmQE_ceB1Uhvk67/s640/Honda-Accord-005-850x568.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
The 2.0 litre SOHC i-VTEC engine is a carryover, but it has been
tuned to offer up to 10% better fuel-efficiency. Max outputs are almost
the same at 155 PS and 190 Nm, which is more (+ 1 Nm) or less (- 1 PS)
similar to what the eighth-gen 2.0 made. <br />
Both engines are paired to a five-speed torque converter automatic
gearbox. If you’re asking why no CVT, Honda reckons that Malaysians
prefer ‘drivability’ over CVT qualities. The ECON Mode button, which
optimises fuel consumption when you press it, makes its debut in the
Accord.<br />
Honda recognises that the outgoing Accord wasn’t very quiet on the
move, and has included Active Noise Control and Active Sound Control
systems in addition to a “strong insulation padding package” to improve
NVH. Also new is the use of front MacPherson strut suspension in place
of double wishbones. <br />
<br />
The steering system is now electric (Motion Adaptive EPS is
interlinked with VSA) instead of hydraulic, an expected progression. The
front strut + EPS combo saves 15.2 kg and reduces vibrations.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFYtrmlxPhfs5qH8mL0slJinZR85wdPQKSBeVVVgr3VZmn_5s5z53kEma_H99tLE3PZhDb_Qt72thGLfWIN8Yn5z-ES-MGwlZz59XKHXNHjlOuYFFFshPWbcMq5KMQ7gww7OltrYlsUJil/s1600/Honda-Accord-009-850x536.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="370" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFYtrmlxPhfs5qH8mL0slJinZR85wdPQKSBeVVVgr3VZmn_5s5z53kEma_H99tLE3PZhDb_Qt72thGLfWIN8Yn5z-ES-MGwlZz59XKHXNHjlOuYFFFshPWbcMq5KMQ7gww7OltrYlsUJil/s640/Honda-Accord-009-850x536.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Moving on to tech, this is a much better equipped Accord than the
somewhat spartan outgoing car. Standard across the board are LED daytime
running lights, auto headlamps, LED rear lights, steering wheel audio
controls, two colour screens on the centre stack (smaller one is a touch
screen dedicated to audio controls, while the bigger i-MID above shows
everything else), dual-zone air con, rear AC vents, front/rear parking
sensors and 17-inch wheels (225/50 tyres).<br />
From there, the 2.0 VTi-L adds on keyless entry with push start,
cruise control, Bluetooth with steering buttons, black leather seats
(beige fabric in the VTi), eight-way powered driver’s seat with lumbar,
navigation, DVD player, HDD audio and reverse camera. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjm9NNuFONIyRZfb8hYf_F_PSa23Xpl0pQYnBpnTGQPH-6qbO8c0H4Znp-CPI3Ak_FAgLv4AUWi-qM4IZ8MHM8ZKq-hkfCZreVl5C-spEBqTWfxfmwxnhyHHez9PZ7thlXYNbhJFHhUBvyf/s1600/Honda-Accord-012-850x568.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="396" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjm9NNuFONIyRZfb8hYf_F_PSa23Xpl0pQYnBpnTGQPH-6qbO8c0H4Znp-CPI3Ak_FAgLv4AUWi-qM4IZ8MHM8ZKq-hkfCZreVl5C-spEBqTWfxfmwxnhyHHez9PZ7thlXYNbhJFHhUBvyf/s640/Honda-Accord-012-850x568.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
Also added is a temperature sensor for the automatic climate control,
so that the appropriate blower speed can be maintained to achieve the
requested interior temperature. The base model’s dual-zone air con also
has an auto function, but the blower speed follows a pre-programmed
schedule.<br />
<br />
On to the 2.4L, which is very well stocked. The 2.4 VTi-L further adds on Honda Lane Watch
(more of that below), auto-leveling LED headlamps (also a first for
Honda in Malaysia), steering paddle shifters, auto dimming rearview
mirror, wood grain trim, powered front passenger seat, premium sound
system with subwoofer and 18-inch wheels (235/45 tyres). <br />
Honda LaneWatch (LW) displays a visual of the left lane on the big
central screen once you flick the indicator. It can also be turned on
manually via a button on the right stalk.
LW gives the driver an 80-degree view of the left lane (standard wing
mirror range is 20 degrees) as far back as 50 metres. The camera is
located under the left wing mirror. Why only on one side? It would be strange to look left (where the screen is) while turning right, don’t you think?<br />
Safety wise, the Accord gets Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), ABS, EBD
and ISOFIX mounts across the board. The airbag count is two for the
2.0L models and four (dual front + side) for the 2.4L.<br />
<span class="embed-youtube" style="display: block; text-align: center;"></span><br />
The new Accord is available in five colours – Modern Steel Metallic,
Champagne Frost Pearl, Crystal Black Pearl, Taffeta White and Alabaster
Silver Metallic (the first two are new colours). Prices start from <b>RM139,800</b> for the 2.0 VTi model, rising to <b>RM149,800</b> for the better equipped 2.0 VTi-L. The range topping 2.4 VTi-L is priced at <b>RM172,800</b>. Prices are OTR with insurance. <br />
The after-sales package includes a five-year warranty with unlimited mileage, plus a new service interval of 10,000 km.<br />

<br />
Finally – after almost a year of spyshots, hints, leaked this and that<a href="http://www.livelifedrive.com/malaysia/news/view/4361/2013-proton-suprima-s-launches-tomorrow-heres-one-more-snap-of-the-preve-hatch"></a> – the 2013 Proton Suprima S<a href="http://www.livelifedrive.com/malaysia/new-cars/overview/4607/2013-proton-suprima-s-hatchback"></a> has been unveiled by Proton, at the Matrade Exhibition and Convention Centre. Previously
known to many as the Proton Preve hatchback, the Proton Suprima S
promises to be “Fully Loaded With Built-in Value”.<br />
The all-new 2013 Proton Suprima S enters the market in two very similar
variants, but for some differences in equipment. Prices for the Suprima
S Executive are set at RM76, 688, while the Suprima S Premium will be
sold at RM79, 638.<br />

<b>Features and Equipment:</b><br />
The Proton Suprima S is the most well-equipped model from the Malaysian
carmaker to date. The Premium variant offers various features such as
rear LED tail lights, LED daytime running lights (DRL), Hill-Hold
Assist, full leather seats, engine ignition Push-start button, paddle
shifters, cruise control and Park Assist with front parking sensors,
rear parking sensors and a reverse camera.<br />
Further features of the Proton Suprima S see the inclusion of the
PROTON Infotainment System. The system is connected to a six-speaker
sound system (four-speaker for the Executive variant), and has a WiFi
capabilities. Yes, 4G in-car WiFI internet browsing is possible in the
Proton Suprima, but only with an internet connection via its WiFi
connectivity, and of course, only while the car is parked.<br />
Through its seven-inch LCD touchscreen, you can also utilise the Suprima S’s DVD player, Bluetooth, USB and iPod connectivity.<br />

<br />
<b>Performance and Power:</b><br />
Power for the new hatchback comes from a CamPro 1.6-litre turbocharged
engine that produces 138hp at 5000rpm and 205Nm of torque from 2000 to
4000rpm. There isn’t an option at the moment for any of the Preve
sedan’s IAFM+ naturally-aspirated engine.<br />
Power is sent to the 17-inch alloy wheels via a seven-speed ProTronic
CVT gearbox and, as with other proton models, the handling and driving
dynamics has been tuned by Proton’s sister company, Lotus, and is
signified by the Suprima S’s rear ‘Handling by Lotus’ emblem. As a
result, 0-100km/h times for the Proton Suprima S is 9.9 seconds, while
its top speed is limited to 190km/h.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<b>Economy:</b><br />
Proton believes that its 1.6-litre CamPro turbocharged engine will
“reserve the performance of a 2.0-litre engine with a 1.6-litre engine’s
fuel economy. Speaking of which, Proton lists the Suprima S’s fuel
efficiency at 9.1l/100km. Through its 50-litre fuel tank, the maths
reckon that there’s a range of at least 545km.<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
<b> Exterior and Interior Design:</b><br />
Despite the new name, the 2013 Proton Suprima S looks very much like a
2013 Proton Preve with a hatchback rear-end arrangement. The front
styling is very much the same, and the rear is styled well for a
hatchback. There are 17-inch alloy wheels that further the Suprima S’s
athletic character.<br />
Inside, the Proton Suprima S features good spaciousness and a
fair-amount of soft-touch materials that made our initial encounter
rather cosy. The front-fascia features a seven-inch LCD touchscreen, but
apart from this, a lot of the cabin features not much that is all-new
to Proton owners. Its design is clean and minimalistic.<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMj2LKffLRR6ZPIZXyqt0XOh7AFDg1BjvLqopEDVK7-Y9fZRda14aCykZeoNkAVABz3HSeBXUCLLv8wXgzQoRpAZ4lUMI1bmTOJVPxYMfAT3NPR4C25MES2HdYYU8uHgh69LRqcjFGtNFl/s1600/proton-suprima-s-booklet-0006-850x544.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="396" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMj2LKffLRR6ZPIZXyqt0XOh7AFDg1BjvLqopEDVK7-Y9fZRda14aCykZeoNkAVABz3HSeBXUCLLv8wXgzQoRpAZ4lUMI1bmTOJVPxYMfAT3NPR4C25MES2HdYYU8uHgh69LRqcjFGtNFl/s640/proton-suprima-s-booklet-0006-850x544.jpg" width="640" /></a><b>Safety:</b><br />
The new Proton Suprima S model also features a load of safety features
such as anti-trap power windows, six airbags (premium Preve sedan has
only four airbags locally), ABS and ESC with Traction Control.<br />
Interestingly, Proton Executive Chairman YBhg Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Haji
Mohd Khamil Jamil firmly claimed that the 2013 Proton Suprima S scored a
Five-Star safety rating from the Australasian New Car Assessment
Program (ANCAP). However, we know that to be tested by the ANCAP, a car
must first be on sale in the market. ANCAP testers then buy a car of the
model they wish to test, and perform the examination independently.<br />
However, Proton managed to earn its Suprima S’s Five-Star ANCAP rating
very cleverly through the use of independent test facilities. The
results of those tests were then submitted to the ANCAP along with those
of the Proton Preve, and from then the ANCAP had deemed it right to
award the Suprima S with the Five-Star rating. The structural
similarities of the Proton Preve and the Suprima S helped the hatchback
receive this award.<br />
<br />
<b>Buyer’s Guide:</b><br />
The 2013 Proton Suprima S comes with Proton’s 5-star program, which
consists of five-year or 150,000km warranty (whichever comes first) and
Proton’s five-year free Road Assist. The new Proton Suprima S hatchback
is offered in five colours – Fire Red, Tranquility Black, Solid White,
Genetic Silver and Atlantic Blue.<br />
<b>Prices for the 2013 Proton Suprima S are as follows:</b><br />
2013 Proton Suprima S Executive (Solid): RM76,338<br />

The well-loved Forte is the car the new Kia Cerato
is here to replace. That little Naza-badged car really did demonstrate
the strict rules by which C-segment sedan sales work. Sticking a
realistic price tag on the windscreen and standing back to watch the
queue form isn’t nearly enough. Just look at the Chevrolet Cruze‘s dismal sales record. Or even the Ford Focus to a certain extent.
Not here in exec land, and especially not in the class-conscious
Malaysian market. To be noticed, the well-engineered and visually
inoffensive Forte had to be priced down to the point where it rivalled
cars a whole class lower, and it also had to be full of toys to boot. It
was a successful formula, as of the non-Toyota or Honda brigade, it was
the only model that managed to move anything approaching respectable
numbers.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfAHDbMqDx6G4R1fZWRnglQWgGqaelpjHQzUsp-NzfutTRo9ZDWXL9k19l_ioIIHH6NMP4PKP1m0lSCRfpRS2Z5eKwAKXUYqpagVxTOVdo1W6Opfwtn30rin2s3oXlql9odCGAaHmd7g6G/s1600/2013-kia-cerato-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfAHDbMqDx6G4R1fZWRnglQWgGqaelpjHQzUsp-NzfutTRo9ZDWXL9k19l_ioIIHH6NMP4PKP1m0lSCRfpRS2Z5eKwAKXUYqpagVxTOVdo1W6Opfwtn30rin2s3oXlql9odCGAaHmd7g6G/s640/2013-kia-cerato-1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
The Cerato builds on that same fill-er-up-full mantra, but lives
without the key edge that its predecessor enjoyed: a significant price
advantage over its class rivals. Now positioned much closer to
similar-sized alternatives, the Kia Cerato will now have to bank on its
good looks, long list of gadgets and, this is the hard sell, improved
brand image to succeed. <br />
Is the Kia badge now desirable enough to command little to no price
leverage over the long-established brands? That’s totally up to you to
decide. What we can definitively tell you, though, is whether or not the
new model is worth your hard earned cash. Read on for our verdict on
the Kia Cerato as evaluated on Malaysian roads.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3kWGzcBh0bHJvBKmSB2dUIYxnegVDy6EGK1eS_RNhhyri8HXropXK8hpAmmT04bydELMmNNJ5_yMCWzQda1TrQ8G_Wc9mjUuD33QuEj66IdXAusC0hlOmFDEnVjKxvZ0dsAJy7L_NXnAb/s1600/10_3Q-Rear-View-620x350.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3kWGzcBh0bHJvBKmSB2dUIYxnegVDy6EGK1eS_RNhhyri8HXropXK8hpAmmT04bydELMmNNJ5_yMCWzQda1TrQ8G_Wc9mjUuD33QuEj66IdXAusC0hlOmFDEnVjKxvZ0dsAJy7L_NXnAb/s640/10_3Q-Rear-View-620x350.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span id="more-182109"></span><br />
<br />
Every car has a strong point, and the new Kia Cerato is big on style. In profile, it looks like a longer, more cultured Honda Civic, fresh from a European reboot, and no longer thinking that a pie and a pint is the ultimate in fine dining. <br />
Kia has styled a car to regain its presence in the mid-size sedan
market. In the flesh, you get glimpses of that low, sleek roofline and
it all makes the new sedan seem alive with dynamism. It has mostly the
right angles, from the lowered stance and wider tracks, and even the
extended overhangs look good. <br />
The new design has plenty of moments, perhaps more so if you’re
approaching from the side or rear. Kia has gone for a European look, and
the Cerato could just about pass as a Teuton. The way the roof arches
into the C-pillars and the rear lights cut into the flank is pure Ford
Focus. <br />
But the years when you can pin point a Korean car’s design influences
from contemporary vehicles and laugh at the way clashing elements are
forced to work together are long gone. As the Kia Cerato looks
distinctive and original wherever you’re looking, and the impression
stays together when you move in close. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhY0RqeCAv9nRvSSLqdhBrZpJPS1DgTb-_9s862B2kW9jN7rhpQUQFzHfxMMNPSUIfLZsTArl665s9SY-scydqY3jhj4lV4AqaIWsyFh0FIvlJXxLS1O6zKUP_bawJV0SjlEjwH4mwMjpX2/s1600/2013-kia-cerato-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhY0RqeCAv9nRvSSLqdhBrZpJPS1DgTb-_9s862B2kW9jN7rhpQUQFzHfxMMNPSUIfLZsTArl665s9SY-scydqY3jhj4lV4AqaIWsyFh0FIvlJXxLS1O6zKUP_bawJV0SjlEjwH4mwMjpX2/s640/2013-kia-cerato-2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
The chroming is subtle, the panel gaps tight and consistent and the
paint deep, crisp and even. It’s tasteful, restrained and completely
unmindful of how other players decide to style their vehicles. Kia has
now grown a look of its own; one that is to be seen with respect and
even admiration. <br />
But moving around the front, the criticism gets considerably hotter.
The Cerato suffers from that bane of modern car design: the corporate
front end. Presumably to make Kia Picanto and Rio owners feel better by association with something so sleek and prosperous. <br />
As fresh as it is, though, the details don’t really matter.
Passers-by during the pre-launch press drive to Kuantan loved it from
every direction, regardless of the small fashion <i>faux pas</i>
around the fussily styled headlights and grille. And in driving around
you’ll spend far longer looking at the interior. This is recommended,
because the Cerato’s cabin is a pretty impressive place. <br />
Firstly, there’s a palpable air of quality – not something you’d
associate with Kias of old, or indeed pretty recent. Apart from the
slightly hollow top of the dashboard, the feel and fit of the plastics
could pass for a semi-premium German (that’s Volkswagen, not Audi),
lifting it beyond the Japanese bunch and the Hyundai Elantra, which is decidedly still very Korean. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNcJ0W1IvpKpqtXyI2TeUe775TB2Xhj4mW0Vith9yy7_8zWwNbXCO4VoU7ZqnMh6OnYyOw2PYPAMAiwihef8LBdJqZxmNi8kB801WsfjbnbZ0JuU4efk9evnfSY1wYp_6rlvTOVTuW393b/s1600/Cerato-8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="302" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNcJ0W1IvpKpqtXyI2TeUe775TB2Xhj4mW0Vith9yy7_8zWwNbXCO4VoU7ZqnMh6OnYyOw2PYPAMAiwihef8LBdJqZxmNi8kB801WsfjbnbZ0JuU4efk9evnfSY1wYp_6rlvTOVTuW393b/s640/Cerato-8.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Okay, the carbonfibre-effect used on the centre console is rather <i>outré</i>
but quite a few bystanders rather like the finish. Maybe it speaks to
its target market well, so you, not us, will be the judge of that.
Easily said, over a good 800 km of frequent rough roads, nothing
creaked, squeaked or came asunder. <br />
It’s the ergonomics that impress. Important switches are in rational,
expected places. Indeed, many buttons on the steering wheel allow most
everyday driving things to be done with hands on the wheel, and the
touchscreen controls are all well labelled and parked in obvious places.
<br />
On our busy roads, that reduces the likelihood that you’ll still be
fiddling with the radio controls or adjusting the ventilation switches
when slow traffic pull across the road or a three-abreast overtaking
battle approaches from around a corner. <br />
Then there are two display screens (both coloured in the 2.0),
offering a selection of warnings and chirpy advise, but more often than
not one is telling you what the stereo is doing while the other keeps
you informed of trip and efficiency details. Again the controls are
logical rather than extravagantly complicated as others tend to be
(Ford, we’re looking right at you).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijSzYls5RCR3TZzqUXUPH5Ro3LEnh3kUw5jGcBVZXsOeC5zYzhCxkYrJ9Peex1VsT0OyklH3lY0J60RCs2Dogrvp_r97zrqNqA7_mQUhzAszLAgKaNmArD8PL6dak7Oa0l-3VI9pyIBUCs/s1600/kia+cerato.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijSzYls5RCR3TZzqUXUPH5Ro3LEnh3kUw5jGcBVZXsOeC5zYzhCxkYrJ9Peex1VsT0OyklH3lY0J60RCs2Dogrvp_r97zrqNqA7_mQUhzAszLAgKaNmArD8PL6dak7Oa0l-3VI9pyIBUCs/s640/kia+cerato.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
If this is making the car sound a bit semi-detached, let us state
that it isn’t. Despite its bulk, the electronics and sheer quantity of
kit being lugged around, the Cerato does a good, if digitally
synthesised, impression of enthusiasm. <br />
The engine is responsible for most of it. The lesser version makes do
with a lightly updated 1.6 litre engine (now with dual-CVVT for an
improved 130 PS and 157 Nm of torque), but at the top of the range, a
new Nu 2.0 provides motivation. It has already seen duty in the Optima K5 and facelifted Hyundai Sonata, and here it gets 161 PS and 194 Nm of twist.<br />
On a light throttle and low revs, it’s all executive waft, most of
the torque available from 2000 rpm onwards. But when called upon to
extend itself, the 2.0 litre motor does so enthusiastically with a
pleasantly hard-edged note filling the cabin. And importantly, it stays
sweet to the red line. <br />
Acceleration is certainly impressive, even in the test cars that were
barely run in. For highway cruises the larger engine is definitely the
one to go for, as it offers effortless acceleration and less engine
drone (with longer gear ratios to assist). Ask more of it and it always
delivers, be it uphill action or traffic-gap filling.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXbRMHVWQB0N-uFBGt35Igw7NLS8n4UJ958BzApuWBhw1jLb43j_T75uR5kEMnBOLhG6KuaV22CZyPOT1lrxMNCgU_tNe6ttqH6Hu9ZaINdpGfW1BQopaTJ1LSgdI5WNxviCafYkBJOpr7/s1600/Kia_Cerato_Review_047.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="250" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXbRMHVWQB0N-uFBGt35Igw7NLS8n4UJ958BzApuWBhw1jLb43j_T75uR5kEMnBOLhG6KuaV22CZyPOT1lrxMNCgU_tNe6ttqH6Hu9ZaINdpGfW1BQopaTJ1LSgdI5WNxviCafYkBJOpr7/s400/Kia_Cerato_Review_047.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
That’s not to say that the cheaper model is underpowered, because it
isn’t. Less powerful would be the obvious and accurate descriptor, but
there’s enough for everyone, really. The older engine does show its age
next to the brand new mill, shouting louder over prolonged
throttle-heavy instances, and with slower response too. But lose out to
rival engines it does not, both in refinement and performance. <br />
Either engine are good at the pumps; the lesser option averaging 6.8
litres per 100 km on a combined cycle, and the 2.0 needing just 0.2
litre more over the same range. Test results weren’t anywhere near those
claimed figures of course, but taking into account the way the cars
were driven (hard, most of the time), you’ll be looking at more than
respectable mileage in the real world. <br />
The suspension retains the Forte’s tried and tested MacPherson strut
front and torsion-beam rear set-up, although the settings have been
tweaked and polished. The car has wider tracks on both axles, and the
wheelbase has been increased too. The set up heavily sides straight-line
comfort over cornering ability, and the car is better off for it. <br />
Let’s be honest here: you’re not going to buy a Kia Cerato for sports
car handling. Or, if you were, don’t. This is still a comfort-biased
front-driver with considerable weight in the bows. At low speeds,
excessive cornering demands result in understeer, although the standard
ESC stability control system will attempt to tame it by throttling back
the engine and doing some autonomous wheel braking.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2hVH_7Gi4vgOidwKWPbO6YmyWFVxrsyXMVIMmPy_RBHHsbypIme5-pv4k4dALJ54WqftdSEXbjjj5zo2iWvdVQHTF89VTDSj-6W_aabaVzdZOTIM_uSSlZ1JTplbXA0pZi2kmI6sbg7cm/s1600/file6alk4ilrmiob2z44c14.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="328" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2hVH_7Gi4vgOidwKWPbO6YmyWFVxrsyXMVIMmPy_RBHHsbypIme5-pv4k4dALJ54WqftdSEXbjjj5zo2iWvdVQHTF89VTDSj-6W_aabaVzdZOTIM_uSSlZ1JTplbXA0pZi2kmI6sbg7cm/s640/file6alk4ilrmiob2z44c14.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
At higher speeds it feels solid and certain (provided you’re not
being silly), staying flat-ish and mostly neutral on the quick stuff.
Just don’t expect sensory overload in terms of feedback, as the
variable-load electric power steering is predictably over-assisted. <br />
The Flex Steer system offers three modes: comfort that is finger
steering good, normal and sport. The last two feel most natural, but as
neither adds any real feel to the wheel, you’re more likely to stick to
one mode and forget the rest just a few days into your ownership. A
novel, but ultimately useless addition, really. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhukGMDGOIBND4DMsQdjOmWVxrSfP3xfHwFqDje2T5Y4pdSNaelKfu8zSWU2DbBktV7FzJQC_Zru0hjva1VB6Be0r29yIj57hp9_wkBIsDHMkc12h7Q2OPn5IwZH5inxwqTVCXXe-HzJ_6G/s1600/Kia4-20130710-034009-509.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="322" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhukGMDGOIBND4DMsQdjOmWVxrSfP3xfHwFqDje2T5Y4pdSNaelKfu8zSWU2DbBktV7FzJQC_Zru0hjva1VB6Be0r29yIj57hp9_wkBIsDHMkc12h7Q2OPn5IwZH5inxwqTVCXXe-HzJ_6G/s640/Kia4-20130710-034009-509.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
As you’d expect, comfort comes before sporting intent, with a
well-smoothed ride largely unbumping any given section of road. At
higher speeds the Cerato feels remarkably stable, with the mass taming
of high-frequency undulations and the dampers stepping in to stop the
harmonics. It’s far better tuned than the mechanically-related Hyundai
Elantra, for instance. <br />
The decision to go for touring (if not exactly grippy) tyres also
pays off with the velveteen ride quality. Only at really high speeds
does the impression of stability diminish, with an exploratory
(downhill) run to 230 km/h discontinued with the onset of what felt like
rear-end lift. As a 130-140 km/h cruiser, the tall gearing and
impressive refinement make the Cerato exceptionally civilised.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg26renTRTNyOuEEEHYuMYAapD_M6C77CY59JEEQ424Vzle_J5IvS1rhOzLkXhujfmA027u2vys9JkUF3Ei4IgCm_T7IaV2nmM1BFassKcuHeR9oe-V9kh0oD2r-cqIiJQyC6ll5aRaoEfZ/s1600/pe_01.2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="342" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg26renTRTNyOuEEEHYuMYAapD_M6C77CY59JEEQ424Vzle_J5IvS1rhOzLkXhujfmA027u2vys9JkUF3Ei4IgCm_T7IaV2nmM1BFassKcuHeR9oe-V9kh0oD2r-cqIiJQyC6ll5aRaoEfZ/s640/pe_01.2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Right, we’ve been leaving the best until last: the toys. The Kia
Cerato bulges with an incredible amount of equipment. The secret is
multiplexing, as both the models are absolutely loaded. As in stuffed. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizGMLzV7ZahP-Dp-FV_VXz6KetI3spVye1xotTmVP4VK28zuhNVSB_QremwnTtvjKKTZ_4VpIFzlnBUCsEFPuYSx08Qb8YN-KehneFTUn7dObVBhOmw5QhoN5QBkFa0GLx9X00tsZtdAEG/s1600/Key.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizGMLzV7ZahP-Dp-FV_VXz6KetI3spVye1xotTmVP4VK28zuhNVSB_QremwnTtvjKKTZ_4VpIFzlnBUCsEFPuYSx08Qb8YN-KehneFTUn7dObVBhOmw5QhoN5QBkFa0GLx9X00tsZtdAEG/s320/Key.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
There’s the class-unusual standard kit: cruise control, dual zone
climate control with cluster ioniser and auto defog systems, powered
memory seats, projector headlamps with DRLs, LED rear combination
lights, aero blade wipers, puddle lamps and pocket lights (both part of
the smart welcome lighting system linked to the keyless entry/start
feature).<br />
Also included are aluminium foot pedals, leather wrapped
multi-function steering wheel, chilled glovebox, Bluetooth connectivity,
800 MB on-board jukebox, folding rear seats with centre armrest (and
cupholders), all-around three-point seat belts plus that all important
rear air-con vents. <br />
Next, the common-sense safety features: front airbags, sidebags,
curtains (six in total), rear-view camera, ISOFIX anchor points,
electronic stability control, traction control, steering-assist vehicle
stability management, brake assist and hill-start assist.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQWbkgI8c7_207LkmDK2wfPHi1ZS_9tFYX8mPFeHnD7nGC79cYiCwJIQF5SV80Dc0K_16yg7_Rpc1i-WdoHc9IKDy26WIfFfizEIGQBSsM5V9TcUWsXYR2xeuTfhzHUG3efsidoE9JXaGh/s1600/rear%252Bview%252Bsmall2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQWbkgI8c7_207LkmDK2wfPHi1ZS_9tFYX8mPFeHnD7nGC79cYiCwJIQF5SV80Dc0K_16yg7_Rpc1i-WdoHc9IKDy26WIfFfizEIGQBSsM5V9TcUWsXYR2xeuTfhzHUG3efsidoE9JXaGh/s640/rear%252Bview%252Bsmall2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The dearer 2.0 litre adds leather upholstery with ventilated
(air-conditioned) driver’s seat, auto-levelling xenon headlamps, rear
lip spoiler, colour 4.2-inch supervision cluster and sunroof, not to
mention the 2.0 badging and extra performance that comes with it. <br />
Kia well recognises that the Cerato is going to fight on value for money and goodies. And there’s a clear target in the Toyota Corolla Altis and Honda Civic<a href="http://paultan.org/2012/07/12/honda-civic-9th-gen-just-launched-from-rm115k-5yrs-warranty-unlimited-mileage-and-10k-service-interval/" target="_blank"></a>, which the 2.0 model closely matches on price. Equipment levels beat the alternatives comprehensively. <br />
On first acquaintance, it does feel like the new Kia Cerato has the
measure of all its dated competitors too (yes, the Honda is still new,
but it hardly feels it). Driving dynamics isn’t quite its forte (pardon
the pun), but neither is it any of its rivals’ bar the keen handling Ford Focus. On the comfort front, the Cerato has them all licked. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh36DH8xu6ComfXyYaC8lH3Z7XYabOQ1zc9_mQ247WiJM_cPLCscWfIaDUdGjzOlwgtrLdOj8RtE-Lm8Btl7DkE0ob-qdq3TnlMy09RkFbJBQh_Uh3nv3SrO1fq4agvMf37JaNICMmJFP5y/s1600/safe_image.php.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh36DH8xu6ComfXyYaC8lH3Z7XYabOQ1zc9_mQ247WiJM_cPLCscWfIaDUdGjzOlwgtrLdOj8RtE-Lm8Btl7DkE0ob-qdq3TnlMy09RkFbJBQh_Uh3nv3SrO1fq4agvMf37JaNICMmJFP5y/s640/safe_image.php.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
Objectively then, it’s a winner, and now it all comes down to the
price and brand acceptance. So over to you: do you see the Kia Cerato as
a viable alternative to the usual suspects? You really should, but
we’ll leave you to make the final decision. Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03311993341237064106noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8216671466335670823.post-64110203582284148042013-09-13T22:02:00.003+09:002013-09-13T22:02:58.542+09:00Hyundai Sonata 2.4L Review<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">
There was a time, not too long ago, when it wasn’t uncommon to point
at a Hyundai vehicle and say that it reminded you a little of something
else.
</div>
How times have changed. These days, it’s not uncommon to point at something else and say that it looks a little like a Hyundai.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQmhS7xdFrEJ5pBGIreM1aLNH39cg6W-jV0DNF1dqXDAxEALuAPzNq-XTCradCgRAcnPZ7cbHTuC_33V37H-tTIIZV6VpGUkZfBr7L9V0852qDfQMuyAg5AwsD-r18z5qRRzjTvvaB28TJ/s1600/2013-hyundai-sonata-fl-sport-test-drive-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="374" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQmhS7xdFrEJ5pBGIreM1aLNH39cg6W-jV0DNF1dqXDAxEALuAPzNq-XTCradCgRAcnPZ7cbHTuC_33V37H-tTIIZV6VpGUkZfBr7L9V0852qDfQMuyAg5AwsD-r18z5qRRzjTvvaB28TJ/s640/2013-hyundai-sonata-fl-sport-test-drive-2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
That’s a reflection of the quantum leap that Hyundai has made in
terms of cutting edge design language. A latecomer to the global
automotive scene, the student is now becoming the teacher it seems, as
more than one prominent badge has already borrowed some of the fluid
design cues that have reinvented Hyundai cars in recent years.<br />
Improvements have not been limited to the surface level, however, and
enhancements engineered under the Korean make have seen its profile
steadily climb in American and European markets, which are traditionally
tough for emerging Asian brands (and not just in the automotive
sector).<br />
Undeniably a brand to watch, we’re always particularly keen to see
what Hyundai has to offer at the upper end of its product portfolio, and
the D-segment Sonata sits pretty close to the apex, which has been
recently refreshed to take on a more edgier demeanour.<br />
In terms of pricing and power, it competes against some very
established Japanese names, and of late, it has been holding its ground
very admirably.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhR2R3aaC5Fv8bfdhfM9h6yZ21F32WJ4qLThpIuAnRQ2Wt5rz7KwpvEGt8NU_ix7ANDJeSzWGpXS55HofMgcHwziXoDRbiEAKd93SIgt2d0GdpjAWsEI9RW3TpsTPpfYBectVm1IVNC3hrE/s1600/2013-hyundai-sonata-fl-sport-test-drive-4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="328" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhR2R3aaC5Fv8bfdhfM9h6yZ21F32WJ4qLThpIuAnRQ2Wt5rz7KwpvEGt8NU_ix7ANDJeSzWGpXS55HofMgcHwziXoDRbiEAKd93SIgt2d0GdpjAWsEI9RW3TpsTPpfYBectVm1IVNC3hrE/s640/2013-hyundai-sonata-fl-sport-test-drive-4.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
We drove the 2.0 variant a few months back and were suitably
impressed with what it had to offer, but it did leave us guessing about
what a little more power and grunt would add to the whole picture.<br />
The answer comes in the form of the Hyundai Sonata 2.4L, which comes
in two flavours: Sports and Premium. The differences between the two are
purely cosmetic, so we didn’t put up a fuss when the more
executively-named Premium variant was made available to us.<br />
From a purely journalistic point of view, we were a little disappointed
to learn that the refreshed Sonata 2.4 does not feature a new engine –
only because the 2.0 variant did, and could trumpet about it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

From a potential buyer’s point of view, however, the fact that it
carries over the same engine (mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox),
is hardly any bad news at all. The Theta II 2.4, which churns out some
176hp, still remains one of the most powerful engines in its class.<br />

Those familiar with the previous version of the Sonata will note that
changes to its facade are not monumental, but nevertheless pronounced.<br />
This upgraded version retains the same head-turning “Orchid-inspired”
design, with fluid lines that swoop from front to back in aerodynamic
fashion, but aficionados will immediately note the completely new front
grille that lends a more executive feel to its persona.<br />
Designwise, Hyundai says the slightly wider air duct up front is also to facilitate better airflow into the engine compartment.<br />

The front and rear lamps have also been revised to adopt a cleaner and
more elegant look, and overall, these blend in with the body design much
better than the first iteration. The Sonata 2.4 also features
fashionable upper level LED lights situated above the front headlamps.<br />
Exclusive to the 2.4 variant are large 18-inch wheels with new-look
rims, which Hyundai says it has been endowed with to match the flagship
status of the variant.<br />

The premium feel of Sonatas has steadily improved over the
generations, but lately great strides have been made in terms of tactile
feel and comfort.<br />

There is still a heavy use of plastic, of course, and some components
feel a little cheaper than others, but overall you feel you’re getting
your money’s worth – especially with the smorgasbord of standard bells
and whistles that are thrown into the mix.<br />
There are plenty of buttons and controls, very ergonomically placed,
that will thrill the fiddle maniacs and control freaks. But rudimental
success is achieved by the way the cabin is laid out with thoughtful
attention to space: there is plenty of legroom, and while there are
plenty of things to play with, nothing seems invasive.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjx2ybWmgFboqTjcCM19yi4nDVFlmBP5AViYdMR3IvzENHg5uZhXg0P-STszmPipKFEki0E5nXKRejKzMYp_zdQeJCiQeg-pt0E9azaSb3Sxy7lU_VQKhyphenhyphenkZhBoode23VtjYYKq5QLUjKIo/s1600/2013-hyundai-sonata-fl-sport-test-drive-11.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjx2ybWmgFboqTjcCM19yi4nDVFlmBP5AViYdMR3IvzENHg5uZhXg0P-STszmPipKFEki0E5nXKRejKzMYp_zdQeJCiQeg-pt0E9azaSb3Sxy7lU_VQKhyphenhyphenkZhBoode23VtjYYKq5QLUjKIo/s640/2013-hyundai-sonata-fl-sport-test-drive-11.jpg" width="496" /></a></div>
There is plenty of headroom in the front, but less at the rear, where
the aerodynamic design of the car takes a toll on vertical space.<br />
The leather seats are comfortable, and there’s really no excuse for
not finding a comfortable driving position with controls that allow you
to bob, tilt and slide backwards and forwards – we’re surprised it
doesn’t swivel. The telescoping steering rack adds to your preferred
comfort setting.<br />
It must be said that all-round visibility is good for such a large
car – aided by extra large side mirrors – and if you need to see more,
just pop open the retractable sunroof.<br />
If all of the above seems familiar, then here’s what’s new about the
latest Sonata 2.4 in a nutshell: a newly designed centre console with a
more practical layout; a new shift pattern for the gear; blue LED
backlighting for radio and clock; and dual independent temperature
controls for front passengers (with screen display).<br />
<br />
The drive<br />
Despite Hyundai putting much attention towards lowering weight to
improve fuel consumption, it must be said that the Sonata doesn’t feel
light at all. On the move, it feels surprisingly hefty, but in the
positive “solid” sense of the word.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjftw1sk-9uHdZxv64p1ACIBLOleZEv7k6R3HHnTtkAttkcP4Lx9pkO5sI2cr_lBgZw6bL-zzzuUotgdVVw4KdVhz0azWXD1RDjfRh36JO_gaLVY4Xqn8omCV2KIF_SOFDo-SfIUdr6AaN/s1600/2013-hyundai-sonata-fl-sport-test-drive-14.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="386" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjftw1sk-9uHdZxv64p1ACIBLOleZEv7k6R3HHnTtkAttkcP4Lx9pkO5sI2cr_lBgZw6bL-zzzuUotgdVVw4KdVhz0azWXD1RDjfRh36JO_gaLVY4Xqn8omCV2KIF_SOFDo-SfIUdr6AaN/s640/2013-hyundai-sonata-fl-sport-test-drive-14.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
It gets off the mark with enthusiasm, and gains momentum smoothly,
though not completely effortlessly. The engine can be best described as
“apt”.<br />
There is a little bit of feistiness when accelerating, as the engine
sounds keen with an ever-so-faint masculine gurgle that trickles into
the otherwise serenely silent cabin. Overall, it doesn’t blow you away
with its power, but there is enough when you need it.<br />
The steering feel, in our opinion is a slight mismatch, as it seems a
little too light for a car of this stature and dimensions. The electric
steering is also a bit more synthetic than some other models that we’ve
tested, but not to the level of being unacceptable.<br />
The overall ride quality was good, with no sign of the harsh
suspension qualities that previous variants were criticised for. Though
on the stiffer side, its performance over bumps and ruts was acceptable,
if not optimal.<br />
On tight corners, the Sonata behaved well, staying planted even at
high speed and powering out with commendable confidence. There was a
slight hint of body roll, but not beyond the level expected from a large
sedan.<br />
The highlight, we felt, was the gear shifts, which were achieved so
smoothly, it could hardly be felt even in blood boiling stop-and-go
heavy traffic situations.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Conclusion<br />
All in, the Sonata achieves its goal in delivering a premium car
that’s stylish and comfortable. Not only is it easy on the eyes, the
many standard fittings it offers coupled with its ever improving drive
quality and handling make it a strong value for money proposition.<br />
If you’re looking to upgrade from a C-segment sedan, this is a car
that should be on your radar. It’s spacious, sleek and there are plenty
of wow factors outside and in to thrill your friends with, should you
choose to pick them up for a night out in town.<br />
If nothing else, it’s a great looking car that you’d be proud to flaunt on your front porch.<br />

<br />
<a href="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/IMG_6452.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-29646" height="399" src="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/IMG_6452-1024x682.jpg" title="IMG_6452" width="600" /></a></div>
Served with an opportunity to take the all-new Lexus IS 250 out for a
run via a scenic high country route, we naturally expected comfort,
luxury and elegance to be part of the ingredients. What we didn’t expect
was a healthy dose of aggression, athleticism and almost Teutonic
levels of dynamism thrown into the mix as well.<br />
Two variants were made available to us for the somewhat epic route
across the Cameron Highlands, which featured a good mix of loops,
switchbacks and flat straights: the IS 250 Luxury and the IS 250 F
Sport.<br />
Both look identical on paper, powered by the same direct-injected
2.5L V6 engine driving the rear wheels that’s mated to a six-speed
automatic transmission – with paddles for manual shifting.<br />
The F-Sport, however, has additional exterior trims and appears to
have been tuned for a shorter gear ratio and endowed with a firmer
suspension setting – though the difference between the two felt nominal,
at best. But that’s not a bad thing because both types supplied an
exhilarating ride.<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmZ4oQT73GEijUyG7g1ElLDr1Eq-lJgZuSXlJ4I7MX29oOjYPD1f4L6jqKXY4wIQ-zygfTK2azzVHz_DVolb2q_kwBW4kpJcKpj87E3GJ2EahnxHv-6WItVtERH9cQdmVJBXGUdn6Rmpx5/s1600/Lexus-IS-250-Luxury-and-F-Sport-31-850x523.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="364" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmZ4oQT73GEijUyG7g1ElLDr1Eq-lJgZuSXlJ4I7MX29oOjYPD1f4L6jqKXY4wIQ-zygfTK2azzVHz_DVolb2q_kwBW4kpJcKpj87E3GJ2EahnxHv-6WItVtERH9cQdmVJBXGUdn6Rmpx5/s640/Lexus-IS-250-Luxury-and-F-Sport-31-850x523.jpg" width="640" /></a>The first hint of the excitement ahead came in the form of the IS
250’s all new design, which honestly makes it look fast even when it is
standing still. Masculine lines seem to swoosh across the car, starting
at a nose made prominent by its spindle shaped design that reaches out
to the rear via the high shoulder line.<br />
Sharp, angular headlights and taillights lend an extra sporty feel to
the whole picture, which makes you eager to find out if it walks the
talk. It does.<br />
The IS pushes off the mark with an instant answer to the question
posed by your right foot, and then it seems to want to say more... much
more.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEif9n8SkeslVTakxFydkGKbAFg3Dj5uvMClrQpBkbmqhDDU28nMsKl6iRG7UUMWr8CWM0Vt7cGdJ4soO_em5dfUGTO3wyxw-01HiySbrmGZs3CrMSMcrfgGRk4eiNUcpNrllS2OQ758rtN3/s1600/IMG_6426-850x493.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="370" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEif9n8SkeslVTakxFydkGKbAFg3Dj5uvMClrQpBkbmqhDDU28nMsKl6iRG7UUMWr8CWM0Vt7cGdJ4soO_em5dfUGTO3wyxw-01HiySbrmGZs3CrMSMcrfgGRk4eiNUcpNrllS2OQ758rtN3/s640/IMG_6426-850x493.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
Much to our delight, our tight cross-country convoy to the far
western coastline of Perak moved at a very “energetic” pace, which
allowed the IS 250 to say plenty.<br />
Things are a little louder in the F Sport variant, thanks to an
intake sound generator, but sadly it was a feature that didn’t come off
as “fully committed” and the result was not as obnoxious as some may
prefer – probably the unfortunate result of finding a balance between a
sporty sensation and the cabin comfort expected from a Lexus.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_F3a2H0QxZQNM7W1IheFlnFIoBT53EzJjeDGzo6m_qoZLANmJzbRizIVOEpCDw-63PZoHlkt_KFAO6FwSnYGpgtSnmGrLcgWM2sm_hx03kcHbxEMYq3c46BkjbuFERBiimXC1NGG89SNs/s1600/Lexus-IS-250-Luxury-and-F-Sport-2-850x509.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="264" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_F3a2H0QxZQNM7W1IheFlnFIoBT53EzJjeDGzo6m_qoZLANmJzbRizIVOEpCDw-63PZoHlkt_KFAO6FwSnYGpgtSnmGrLcgWM2sm_hx03kcHbxEMYq3c46BkjbuFERBiimXC1NGG89SNs/s640/Lexus-IS-250-Luxury-and-F-Sport-2-850x509.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
Along the long straights and when overtaking, we found that power was
most satisfyingly delivered when the pedal was punched down at full
throttle, where we were pushed off in a huff with nice early thrust and
served the full buffet of 252Nm which kicked in at about 4,800rpm –
5,000rpm.<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDeT-7Hpiar_3U4fysLZcqVZVMGqPRpiGBAhCfG72lKl0XXy9OZo50RUdeAOOaq8Qtk6j0yqhG_FBPiDWhQHphd0xsyzduEjHfz6m41GEAoWyiv_zUZ-zRGB_GkGTTfaJ1TOHVkS6qVK6S/s1600/Lexus-IS-250-Luxury-and-F-Sport-30-850x548.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="382" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDeT-7Hpiar_3U4fysLZcqVZVMGqPRpiGBAhCfG72lKl0XXy9OZo50RUdeAOOaq8Qtk6j0yqhG_FBPiDWhQHphd0xsyzduEjHfz6m41GEAoWyiv_zUZ-zRGB_GkGTTfaJ1TOHVkS6qVK6S/s640/Lexus-IS-250-Luxury-and-F-Sport-30-850x548.jpg" width="640" /></a>It is undoubtedly a car that likes to rev in the high ranges. It
needs to be worked a little before you are rewarded with a sensation of
maximum exhilaration, which we must say makes for a very sublime and
engaging driving experience.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihrJVwXem1r88G3X_jbMUPDtkfgQftXcLDPLVqs6XEk3vO6qFa-5eHXFSrAPe8nsWws4ghLyexMOYfaVu5gquwJloJAth7Xh-CzW9SalaCmyCdmdk5SHGwrDeB-OS4eIkCOf4VYzLsAiQJ/s1600/Lexus-IS-250-Luxury-and-F-Sport-52-850x537.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="380" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihrJVwXem1r88G3X_jbMUPDtkfgQftXcLDPLVqs6XEk3vO6qFa-5eHXFSrAPe8nsWws4ghLyexMOYfaVu5gquwJloJAth7Xh-CzW9SalaCmyCdmdk5SHGwrDeB-OS4eIkCOf4VYzLsAiQJ/s640/Lexus-IS-250-Luxury-and-F-Sport-52-850x537.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
The B-road portion of the journey took us through some challenging
hillside twisty bits with plenty of hard corners to put the IS 250’s
handling and agility to the test. Honestly, though, the car seemed to be
only mildly challenged, as it remained thoroughly composed even when
dipping in and out of curves at an eyebrow raising pace.<br />
It felt planted all the time, but adding to your confidence behind
the wheel is the fact that the steering is direct, predictable and
supplies ample information to the driver.<br />
Over the span of 428km, we had a chance to sample both the Luxury and
F Sport variants in similar conditions and can confidently say that
both performed very similarly, though the F Sport probably gave off a
slightly edgier feel.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjk4jelBybkfuAc6TvZ3EgZaAxunGCSjno8hPUGr20Oa3TEiCNgMYbhfPCIF8ofosIKR33tyOH2kdWPddg2lgl9sRy-h8Eb1g8GrwinREYG8EJWdPZVt5Z7blaGGeJ5HNkugB6wBmtVGi1l/s1600/Lexus-IS-250-Luxury-and-F-Sport-62-850x599.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="414" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjk4jelBybkfuAc6TvZ3EgZaAxunGCSjno8hPUGr20Oa3TEiCNgMYbhfPCIF8ofosIKR33tyOH2kdWPddg2lgl9sRy-h8Eb1g8GrwinREYG8EJWdPZVt5Z7blaGGeJ5HNkugB6wBmtVGi1l/s640/Lexus-IS-250-Luxury-and-F-Sport-62-850x599.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
As a matter of personal preference though, the Luxury made a better
impression, coming off as the more wholesome and resolved of the two.
But we won’t be surprised if more than a few disagree.<br />
Travelling in a convoy that allowed for a number of driver changes,
with three drivers per car, had its advantages. Among them, a chance to
take a breather from a hectic pace, a chance to finally pay proper
attention to interior detail and an opportunity to sample the car from
an often overlooked vantage point – the rear seats.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh87j4fAmVxEOTfQApscRQ4-vjxCu8ViRd6wLhW46kvh2_NoeMyCblRkfA0btJwGjXWz0BLyHWtbRJm2wFa0tmrgXIuSr9E9fJQjGO9_sVVtx_W1xsm5ZYusNgcR58vZkDWBGc-73lmTl24/s1600/Lexus-IS-250-Luxury-and-F-Sport-67-850x568.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="396" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh87j4fAmVxEOTfQApscRQ4-vjxCu8ViRd6wLhW46kvh2_NoeMyCblRkfA0btJwGjXWz0BLyHWtbRJm2wFa0tmrgXIuSr9E9fJQjGO9_sVVtx_W1xsm5ZYusNgcR58vZkDWBGc-73lmTl24/s640/Lexus-IS-250-Luxury-and-F-Sport-67-850x568.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
From the front passenger seat, for example, it is much easier to note
that the new IS is a little more spacious than the last, with plenty of
leg room up front and back, provided you are comfortable with the
cockpit-feel. The high position of the centre console tucks you in quite
snugly in the front, but the high setting of the transmission tunnel in
the rear assertively states that it fits just two, with little room for
argument.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0KrPfDsnwrrlJgRgrGaland5f0uOBIuTFlFQiQgKH7Nb-y_xApMoc6m9dJ6jbF75IVjOFJVU9PbCCjSFWesDMppAqg8qH-1TOWIFbxOsF6BUQLsI9dkPINRZht3p1qTAku4NSqigD4jCI/s1600/Lexus-IS-250-Luxury-and-F-Sport-59-850x568.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="404" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0KrPfDsnwrrlJgRgrGaland5f0uOBIuTFlFQiQgKH7Nb-y_xApMoc6m9dJ6jbF75IVjOFJVU9PbCCjSFWesDMppAqg8qH-1TOWIFbxOsF6BUQLsI9dkPINRZht3p1qTAku4NSqigD4jCI/s640/Lexus-IS-250-Luxury-and-F-Sport-59-850x568.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
There are plenty of buttons and switches to play with if you’re
riding shotgun, but the main highlight is the touch-sensitive climate
control, which can be adjusted with a simple touch and slide motion –
definitely a plus point for the new touchscreen generation of
technophiles.<br />
Another feature worth highlighting is the speedometer on the
instrument cluster, which induced much fiddling of the button located on
the steering wheel. It doesn’t achieve much, other than reconfigure the
cluster to your preference, but the novelty takes a very long time to
wear off. Drivers can also choose to change the colour of the digital
speedometer needle.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjly-GHjDfF4YTss-bbYMEKJ_7tbrT_q0Wu0CC_X7AB0MSyIf5AZz6xFxjfH9STOj063m4tr_SSKEuCh99wT-8HSYz1Xy8S5O39_OVBFPFpNq1hja-HIvGKdt607hsIT0R-OSf1OY3-X8VW/s1600/Lexus-IS-250-Luxury-and-F-Sport-64-850x577.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="392" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjly-GHjDfF4YTss-bbYMEKJ_7tbrT_q0Wu0CC_X7AB0MSyIf5AZz6xFxjfH9STOj063m4tr_SSKEuCh99wT-8HSYz1Xy8S5O39_OVBFPFpNq1hja-HIvGKdt607hsIT0R-OSf1OY3-X8VW/s640/Lexus-IS-250-Luxury-and-F-Sport-64-850x577.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
The overall tactile feel was good, befitting a brand that is
competing in the luxury segment, but in the new IS, it must be said that
everything has been stepped up a notch.<br />
That’s a good thing because at its asking price, the Lexus IS 250 is
definitely hovering around a playground full of German players saying

From our experience, this is one Lexus that deserves a spot, inching
ever so close to the calibre expected of the Germanic giants competing
in the same segment.<br />
And while there may be room for improvement in some aspects, in terms
of delivering an engaging driving experience, dare we say it, the Lexus
IS 250 may have just trumped a certain Bavarian player that carries the
number 3.<br />
Just maybe.<br />

It was back in this reporter’s days as a youth, when the band <i>Linkin Park </i>first
burst on to the scene and generated plenty of waves with their mix of
metal, rap, a lot of screaming, and a hint of teenage angst.<br />
However as time passed, their music gradually adopted a more
melancholic tone, with a reflective mood rather than one that is
charged, and with a lot less screaming.<br />
Art is often a reflection of the era of the artiste and that shows in how their music has steadily evolved through the years.<br />

In similar fashion, Honda’s Civic sedan has shifted from the
futuristic shape of its eighth generation, to the angular shape that
bears plenty of design cues from the current City and Accord.<br />
Many have lambasted its shape for being too conservative, contrived, and unimaginative.<br />
True, the Civic isn’t as ‘ahead of its time’ in the looks department
as many had come to expect, but this writer will stick his head out and
defend the new model by saying it is better looking than its
predecessor.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKQ_iswkZJbilGfnkNvkYlMO3uHeWK1Q49DhdXjhRyb5IyGXjfE3cx6p4dHyCXK7ZtdBN1aWbtnyz33DGarsah0aTYN5qRM1Dypfv8m0DNylDPv3A1po9LUL8TM1lYomfLInQAy9RP8dF-/s1600/Hybrid-4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="226" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKQ_iswkZJbilGfnkNvkYlMO3uHeWK1Q49DhdXjhRyb5IyGXjfE3cx6p4dHyCXK7ZtdBN1aWbtnyz33DGarsah0aTYN5qRM1Dypfv8m0DNylDPv3A1po9LUL8TM1lYomfLInQAy9RP8dF-/s640/Hybrid-4.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
Where its predecessor’s slanted ends and lack of lines gives it the
look of a melted slab of butter, the rising centre line on the current
Civic lends it an athletic look with a slight forward leaning posture.<br />
Aficionados will immediately recognise that this model here is the
Hybrid variant with the small blue fitments on its headlights and
taillights, and this is the variant which gets the biggest step-up from
its predecessors.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhE7Dp-2Se0Od5hN9Omif5SEpMlbWFunK3YCx8N58vms5lU317uVsKeZkjPrDEtfu8m44MVzxxeT-Fkg0hkeD0jPxQV2lgbj__6z3mbehoN3ZXhbL3Ltx_2vFFzDnEHIfAM7XfIqfNKbNnl/s1600/Hybrid-6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="330" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhE7Dp-2Se0Od5hN9Omif5SEpMlbWFunK3YCx8N58vms5lU317uVsKeZkjPrDEtfu8m44MVzxxeT-Fkg0hkeD0jPxQV2lgbj__6z3mbehoN3ZXhbL3Ltx_2vFFzDnEHIfAM7XfIqfNKbNnl/s640/Hybrid-6.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
No longer does it use the miniscule 1.3-litre engine, which had
trouble carrying its own weight, instead a bigger 1.5-litre engine takes
over propulsion duties with a bank of lithium-ion batteries packed at
the back.<br />
Boasting a 33 per cent higher output and 9kg weight saving over its
predecessor’s nickel-metal hydride battery, the lithium-ion battery does
allow the engine to stay off while feeding enough power to keep the
audio system, lights, and crucially air-conditioning system operating
for minutes on end.<br />
Like its predecessor, the Civic Hybrid is a mild hybrid as its
electric motor is not powerful enough to provide zero-emission
propulsion by itself, and is limited to merely assisting the engine
under acceleration.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEXmo0dWRwPivkI8NZngalciXDlevQvwwUNG6xnp1dMRSdZeZF6m9nOqQZoacbgbKlD1ao1JC8IgTUSYt48avQ142prqHvjzlTUVeTOZyyqqCYUhCsVSPJ-zSY5Gikmk5tfMaEDRRbMGP1/s1600/2012_honda_civic_sedan_39.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEXmo0dWRwPivkI8NZngalciXDlevQvwwUNG6xnp1dMRSdZeZF6m9nOqQZoacbgbKlD1ao1JC8IgTUSYt48avQ142prqHvjzlTUVeTOZyyqqCYUhCsVSPJ-zSY5Gikmk5tfMaEDRRbMGP1/s640/2012_honda_civic_sedan_39.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
Though the engine’s automatic stop-start system does send some
shudders into the cabin when starting up, we have to say that it is a
lot more refined than the optional stop-start system on non-hybrid cars
we have experienced, as there is no sudden lurching from the drivetrain
when the engine kicks in.<br />
No matter, the electric motor delivers plenty of low-down low-speed
kick from the get-go, and the bigger engine finally gives the Civic
Hybrid enough thrust to push the car easily beyond highway speed limits.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidw-Mh0gwhOhd7ZIQxkg0s3SFW0U583kfTMVYufPs4gOfj92SPcvg6yEzRaTWiSnPofXzL72CjaEkmLlV7WV7cLek0SGocFah51e22l1bWo2n-8qiiPMoXaC9jc8Zq4BQC2OYsv8qOTrrb/s1600/Hybrid-10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidw-Mh0gwhOhd7ZIQxkg0s3SFW0U583kfTMVYufPs4gOfj92SPcvg6yEzRaTWiSnPofXzL72CjaEkmLlV7WV7cLek0SGocFah51e22l1bWo2n-8qiiPMoXaC9jc8Zq4BQC2OYsv8qOTrrb/s640/Hybrid-10.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
Our high-speed interstate run between Malacca and Selangor with four
occupants on board, yielded a fuel consumption figure in the region of
16km/L.<br />
An admirable figure considering that it also included lengthy stop-go
traffic situations while jostling with Singaporean tourists in Malacca,
but needless to say it is not especially exceptional for a hybrid.<br />
That said the Civic Hybrid is considerably more expensive, now it sits as a middle rung model amongst the Civic's variants.<br />
If you are planning to buy a Civic on a budget, the 1.8S variant is RM4,000 cheaper and very nearly as fuel-efficient.<br />
Between the 1.8S and Hybrid variants, the Civic Hybrid does come with
added garnish such as its chrome door handles, leather upholstery,
front side airbags, and keyless ignition, but if you aren't sold on the
idea of a hybrid, the 1.8S is a better option.<br />
With a CVT meting out the power, acceleration in the Civic Hybrid
isn’t what you might call exciting or adrenaline pumping, sure enough
after the initial kick from the electric motor assistance, the Civic
Hybrid takes off with a smooth and linear progress.<br />
The driving experience doesn’t feel that different from before.<br />
The Civic’s electric power steering does transmit direction changes
quickly and accurately at low speeds and gradually weighs up as you
build speed, while the damping in its ride feels more absorbent now to
poorly surfaced roads.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLdYJGnfMJzBCL9fFVGS5VVPVC9zMlJjSrXILI49cyQjPZ6ZuinDszV99FJWbT-nltLPyZutG-EW9a7XDB_-tVToNXQrLADZHEBuRjhfqNAwoYqCkhWWyLJ6dm1d4RT49JnecU4QcTJfUC/s1600/Hybrid-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="326" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLdYJGnfMJzBCL9fFVGS5VVPVC9zMlJjSrXILI49cyQjPZ6ZuinDszV99FJWbT-nltLPyZutG-EW9a7XDB_-tVToNXQrLADZHEBuRjhfqNAwoYqCkhWWyLJ6dm1d4RT49JnecU4QcTJfUC/s640/Hybrid-2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
While the handling characteristics might not have changed, the level of refinement inside certain has.<br />
Sure the curvaceous shape of the cockpit has made way for one that
looks plain and blocky, but with the button count slashed, it feels much
easier to operate the cockpit controls.<br />
Furthermore the bright blue backlight which lit up the previous cabin
like a disco ball has been removed in favour of a black background with
subtle hues and tones that are less garish, and more pleasing to the
eyes.<br />
But the biggest improvement on the Civic is its NVH (noise,
vibration, harshness) suppression, as external noises are notably absent
even at high speeds, with the exception of a hushed roar from the
tyres.<br />
For many years the Europeans have boasted about high-speed
refinement, and we were equally surprised to see that Honda has
delivered something to match the new competition.<br />
In many respects the Civic Hybrid is a huge improvement over its
predecessor, yet it retains some of that identity of being the driver’s
choice.<br />
After a weekend with it, we felt that the criticism it received is
undeserved as the Civic feels grown up now, less boyish exuberance but
more evergreen qualities.<br />
Much like how <i>Linkin Park</i> changed their tune as the years
progressed, maybe it isn’t them getting old, but they realising that
tastes change and nobody stays young forever.<br />
Maybe Honda has woken up to this fact, and maybe we should too.<br />

<div class="first-child ">
<a href="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/FORD26-Custom.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-21885" height="400" src="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/FORD26-Custom.jpg" title="_FORD26 (Custom)" width="600" /></a></div>
While Ford's all-new Focus ended 2012 by being crowned the world's
bestselling car, it was a different story in Malaysia. Outside the
cognoscenti circle, Ford's Cologne, Germany developed model is not at
the top of the general car buying public's mind.<br />
What you see here is the reinvigorated One Ford's attempt to go mainstream in ASEAN.<br />
Imported from Ford's ultra modern RM 1.36 billion plant in Rayong, Thailand, the Focus is priced at just RM115,888.<br />
Even the standard Sport model comes very well equipped and undercuts
many Japanese and supposedly better value Korean rivals by a significant
margin.<br />
Dynamically, nothing on this side of the GTI/RS badge divide drives like the Focus. More on that later.<br />
<a href="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/FORD20-Custom.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-21886" height="400" src="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/FORD20-Custom.jpg" title="_FORD20 (Custom)" width="600" /></a>Believe us when we say that pictures don't do the Focus Sport any
justice. Details like the intelligently hidden fuel lid, intersecting
concave and convex lines, and that sexy waist line and curvaceous rump
can only be fully appreciated in sheet metal.<br />
Inside, the Focus' cabin is best appreciated at night. A pair of
amber ambient light softly illuminates the front, while the rest of the
cabin, including the steering wheel control buttons, are bathed in
soothing blue light.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGEWZktXienZvNE3GdOFKTQGmRFPMaXUlCb_s65-mZKiCG3yIdIiQWXqq2vapHI0iUZXsKVcb0_vI7rRqCKOjiqZEC_SHRKENqKYzt1GwTo-LpIzoHUTLFM6EbSXnv7l0MChC3LC0_ncfY/s1600/2012-ford-focus-5door-interior-16-630x415.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="404" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGEWZktXienZvNE3GdOFKTQGmRFPMaXUlCb_s65-mZKiCG3yIdIiQWXqq2vapHI0iUZXsKVcb0_vI7rRqCKOjiqZEC_SHRKENqKYzt1GwTo-LpIzoHUTLFM6EbSXnv7l0MChC3LC0_ncfY/s640/2012-ford-focus-5door-interior-16-630x415.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
While other cars have their instrument panel cluttered with separate
icons for the headlamps, front and rear fog lamps, the Focus adopts a
nice graphical representation of a car to provide a simple overview
status of all exterior lighting functions.<br />
<br />
While the Focus feels premium and has a user interface that's
designed with great care, the large frame front seats appear to take up a
fair bit of interior space, slightly compromising the rear legroom.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbltlKGaFD6gJh3_FlT0jP0pr_E9sDngPYBDgNFCaW2NvYoWLE43ypY9IWBhjmtppxEhyF8rsBActDWNbzxG5kUMCyxYzMlU2zYFR4GYcrWrqfB0zxziKxEyQW0k7ouF1qecEMXhA1MvX9/s1600/2013-ford-focus-test-drive-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="342" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbltlKGaFD6gJh3_FlT0jP0pr_E9sDngPYBDgNFCaW2NvYoWLE43ypY9IWBhjmtppxEhyF8rsBActDWNbzxG5kUMCyxYzMlU2zYFR4GYcrWrqfB0zxziKxEyQW0k7ouF1qecEMXhA1MvX9/s640/2013-ford-focus-test-drive-1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
Up ahead, occupant space is taken up by a dashboard that protrudes significantly more than its peers.<br />
The standard Focus Sport misses out on an auto dimming rear view mirror available in the Sport+ model.<br />
When driving at night with the rear view mirror flicked to manual
night mode, two strips of amber from the roof's ambient light are
inadvertently reflected on the mirror, causing minor irritation.<br />
Clearly, the Focus' cabin was validated and signed off on the higher range Sport+ model rather than its lower range twin.<br />
On the move is where the Ford Focus Sport shines. The Ford Focus is a
reminder to the working class that driving joy is not a purview
dominated only by luxury German brands.<br />
It is not for nothing that the Ford Focus was the only non-luxury,
non-performance car finalist in the industry journal Vehicle Dynamics
International's 2012 Car of the Year, alongside the Toyota 86/Subaru
BRZ, Porsche 911 and BMW 3 Series. In the year before, Jurgen Putzschler
was honoured the Vehicle Dynamicist of the Year, while his Focus
vehicle dynamics team narrowly lost out on the overall title to McLaren
Automotive.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIMgHAPKwJSS626qSn8SDLbC6Pujymu6xV0RX9FTq9GGTNUoGq8iLtezKE5v2ppCsJJIuCJZV7kJqG1B9xuvmMLqb0kv3TvWUHL5kmb1ApG54BbQekaHUIL6bPGdUdIkO3xUzq6xSwuWXO/s1600/dsc_2584.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIMgHAPKwJSS626qSn8SDLbC6Pujymu6xV0RX9FTq9GGTNUoGq8iLtezKE5v2ppCsJJIuCJZV7kJqG1B9xuvmMLqb0kv3TvWUHL5kmb1ApG54BbQekaHUIL6bPGdUdIkO3xUzq6xSwuWXO/s640/dsc_2584.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
That says a lot about the pedigree of cars that experts compare the
Ford Focus against, at least as far as handling is concerned.<br />
At a constant 120km/h, there are few other cars in its class that
offers a quieter cabin. At higher speeds and crossing rougher sections
of the highway, only the faintest wind noise and tyre roar can be heard.<br />
In fact, it is quieter and rides better than many higher range D-segment sedans that are supposedly more comfort oriented.<br />
Fancy electronic gadgetry working behind the torque vectoring control
(TVC) helps even the most ham-fisted driver to string up corners like
Sebastien Loeb's prodigee.<br />
Road undulations, mid-corner bumps, uneven cambers, the Focus just
soaks it all up. As a highway cruiser, the Focus is an excellent
companion.<br />
<a href="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/FORD12-Custom.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-21887" height="600" src="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/FORD12-Custom.jpg" title="_FORD12 (Custom)" width="400" /></a><br />
The six speed PowerShift dual clutch automatic transmission has a
thumb operated rocker switch on the shift lever for manual selection of
gear ratios. While the set-up simplifies left hand drive to right hand
drive adaptation by the manufacturer, they are difficult to use when you
are pushing on.<br />
Operating them require the precision of a brain surgeon operating on a swaying boat.<br />
On the plus side, the latest version of Ford's PowerShift unit is
smoother than some earlier units we've tried in the past. Only in slow
traffic will a driver notice that he is driving a dual clutch unit
rather than a torque converter automatic.<br />
Like all dual clutch transmissions, it shifts with sniper like
precision when you are eagerly pushing the car but is clunky when
inching along in heavy traffic, or in our case, when slowly climbing up
our office multi-storey car park's very tight and steep angular access
ramp.<br />
There isn’t enough space in this page for us go into further detail.
We can only summarise that the <br />

<a href="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/IMG_7643.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-25141" height="400" src="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/IMG_7643.jpg" title="IMG_7643" width="600" /></a></div>
When you first come across a CR-Z, there is a sense of curiosity of
what Honda is trying to achieve with this vehicle. On paper, the 2013
Honda CR-Z appears rather expensive, slow, and cramped.The second thing
that will deepen your curiosity is the fact that it is a 'hybrid',which
doesn't really go hand in hand with sportiness,that is until supercars
started adopting the same technology. Well, that was after the CR-Z was
on sale.<br />
But one thing is unmistakeable, the CR-Z looks amazing, thanks to its
wedge-like shape and sporty stance. The front of the car resembles a
fighter jet and the rear reminds us of the old Honda CRX which were so
widely popular back in the 90's. But that is what the CR-Z is, a modern
take on the CRX.<br />
<a href="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/IMG_7657.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-25200" height="400" src="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/IMG_7657.jpg" title="IMG_7657" width="600" /></a><br />
<a href="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/IMG_7646.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-25206" height="400" src="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/IMG_7646.jpg" title="IMG_7646" width="600" /></a><br />
On the road, this two door petrol-electric coupe completely exceeds
its specification to become one of the most exquisite new cars
available.<br />
Facelifted for the first time since its launch in Malaysia two years
ago, the 2013 Honda CR-Z sport hybrid,can be purchased with a starting
price of RM119,000 for the manual and RM123,000 for the CVT automatic.
Prices quoted are on the road inclusive of insurance. Compared to the
outgoing CR-Z model, the new CR-Z costs about RM4,000 more, which is not
too bad considering the significant upgrades included.<br />
Horsepower has increased from 122 Hp to 134 Hp (manual transmission
model), but peak power now comes 600 rpm later, at 6,600 rpm. Maximum
torque is also raised from 174 Nm to 190 Nm between 1,000 rpm to 2,000
rpm, which is better than the outgoing model's 1,500 rpm to 2,000 rpm
range.<br />
Performance figures are slightly lower for the CVT automatic model.
Horsepower is 1 Hp less while torque is 18 Nm less, but maximum torque
of 172 Nm spread over a wider rev range, extending to 3,000 rpm, 1,000
rpm more than the manual transmission model.<br />
In city driving the CR-Z pulls away fast from just off idle, which
encourages early upshifts. And if that doesnt animate you, the bassy
exhaust note surely will. The alloy-topped gear knob connects to one of
the world’s best gearboxes. All of this is of course in conjunction with
the electric motor.<br />
Its not the fastest car on the road, but that is not the end of the
story. The car has instant acceleration thanks to the Electric Motor.
It’s best not to think of the electric motor as a fuel-saving device in
the CR-Z but rather a substitute for a small turbocharger.<br />
In my opinion , an electric motor is better than any small
turbocharger because it does not effect fuel consumption, doesn’t curb
engine revability, and responds faster than any turbo. And when this is
combined with a Honda engine and manual gearbox, the drivetrain is an
absolute gem.<br />
The facelifted CR-Z comes with a lighter lithium-ion battery and a
new S+ 'overboost' mode to improve performance. The S+ mode is useful
when needing to overtake vehicles. It provides extra boost for around
3-5 seconds, but do not expect to feel a surge of power as the drive
train delivers the 'overboost' in refined a manner. The S+ is a nice
option that Honda have included, we especially like how the S+ button is
positioned on the steering wheel. It reminds us of a NoS like button on
modified cars.<br />
<a href="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/IMG_7722.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-25224" height="400" src="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/IMG_7722.jpg" title="IMG_7722" width="600" /></a><br />
The ride and handling of the Honda CR-Z remain the same. An idiom
comes into mind, Don't fix anything that is not broken. This is a car
that communicates intimately, responds eagerly and is happy to adapt to
multiple cornering styles.<br />
Fundamentaly, the CR-Z needs more power, and on a few occasion it was
possible to get caught between second and third gears, revving too hard
in second, but falling off pace in third.<br />
The Honda CR-Z is not a proper four-seater; in fact, it probably
can't be considered a four seater at all. When tested, a short passenger
around 160cm in height found the back seat uncomfortable, especially in
the headroom region.<br />
Furthermore, the person sitting in the passenger seat had to move the
chair forward to provide some legroom for the rear passenger which
ultimately led to the front passenger's knees to bang onto the
dashboard.<br />
Honda have also included an Isofix in the 2013 car. But it is
questionable whether its function can be applied due to the atomity of
the rear seats.<br />
On a side note, the front seats were comfortable. Comparing the seats
to its predecessor, the seats have been updated and have a mixture of
leather and fabric.<br />
<a href="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/IMG_7727.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-25289" height="400" src="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/IMG_7727.jpg" title="IMG_7727" width="600" /></a><br />
Honda have also upgraded the lighting on the car. The CR-Z now comes
with Day Time Running Lights (DRL) and L.E.D interior lighting which
gives it a touch of luxury.<br />
Its best to forget what the specifications sheet tells you about the
CR-Z. Its better in the real world, as it delivers a huge amount of
driving enjoyment, whether commuting or driving hard on a twisty roads.<br />
It just needs a bit more top end power and, ultimately, a lower price
tag, to become a near-perfect package.The CRZ exactly transcends 'Who
says Hybrids can't be fun'.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03311993341237064106noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8216671466335670823.post-39756773297360666252013-09-13T12:56:00.002+09:002013-09-13T13:01:06.256+09:00Subaru XV 2.0i - A Different Breed<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<h1 style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
<img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-27688" height="355" src="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/IMG_1709.jpg" title="IMG_1709" width="600" /></h1>
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/IMG_1709.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a><br />
<div class="first-child ">
</div>
FOR a brand that is better known for its models that appealed more to
niche markets rather than the mass in Malaysia, Subaru's decision to
step into uncharted territory with the XV compact crossover was very
bold indeed. Especially so when competition in the segment is already
stiff with the likes of Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5 and the Kia Sportage in
the fray.
Despite knowing that attracting a new audience is not going to be an
easy task, Subaru believes that the XV brings something very different
to the table. But is that enough to compete with some very established
rivals?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/IMG_1734.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-27689" height="309" src="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/IMG_1734.jpg" title="IMG_1734" width="600" /></a></div>
<br />
At first glance, the XV seems to lose out in the size department. It
doesn't look as large as the other compact SUVs and it sports a lower
roofline than most. However, with 220mm of ground clearance, it has a
base that is actually 50mm higher than the next nearest competing SUV
model.<br />
To its credit, the chunky bumpers and plastic extensions on the wheel
arches and door sills give the crossover a rugged look, complementing
its purpose aptly.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/IMG_1730.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-27690" height="339" src="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/IMG_1730.jpg" title="IMG_1730" width="600" /></a></div>
<br />
Although the XV is built on the same platform as the hatchback
Impreza, but it looks nothing like it. Inside, the XV offers decent head
and leg room in front. In the rear however, head space is an issue for
anyone taller than five-and-a-half feet.<br />
Fortunately, leg room isn’t an issue, and in terms of comfort, the leather seats hugged us well and kept us comfy at all times.<br />
Slightly disappointing is the fact that the cabin looked like it was
designed 10 years ago. The materials used lacked refinement and the
dashboard and instrument panel could have been designed to have more a
current feel and appeal.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/IMG_1749.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-27691" height="400" src="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/IMG_1749.jpg" title="IMG_1749" width="600" /></a></div>
<br />
However, whatever the XV lacks in modern cabin refinement, it more
than makes up for in performance, ride and handling. In this respect, we
actually feel that Subaru’s compact crossover is miles ahead of its
competitors.<br />
First, there was the smooth power delivery. The 2.0-litre boxer
engine that kicks out 150hp and 196Nm of torque and the Lineartronic CVT
transmission does a fine job of ensuring that there is always enough
power to play with. It is not the most powerful SUV around, but in our
opinion, it delivers the power with better refinement than most.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/IMG_1771.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-27692" height="400" src="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/IMG_1771.jpg" title="IMG_1771" width="600" /></a></div>
<br />
Where handling is concerned, the XV is as close as any Japanese
crossover or compact SUV below RM150,000 mark can get to a passenger
car. It felt planted at corners, which is where most SUVs would suffer.
The steering is uncharacteristically responsive, which in turn enhances
the driver’s confidence in a way most SUVs fail to do in hard driving
circumstances.<br />
Despite having a high ground clearance, the XV has a low centre of
gravity, thanks to Subaru's trademark Boxer engine configuration, which
has two pairs of pistons firing away from each other at horizontal
points. This allows the engine to be mounted at a lower point, with a
lower centre gravity, which results in class-leading handling and
stability for the XV.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/IMG_1717.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-27693" height="342" src="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/IMG_1717.jpg" title="IMG_1717" width="600" /></a></div>
<br />
In terms of features, the XV comes with cruise control, paddle
shifters, GPS navigation system, a reverse camera, automatic air
conditioning with anti-dust filter, and an audio system with DVD, iPod
and USB connectivity.<br />
Despite only having a short stint with the XV, we could quickly
conclude that Subaru wasn’t off the mark about the XV offering something
very different to the compact SUVs arena.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/IMG_1744.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" height="600" src="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/IMG_1744.jpg" title="IMG_1744" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
In most cases, those who purchase a SUV would do so because they want
a cabin with space, a raised driving and seating position, and because
they generally desire the idea of being in a larger and more impactful
machine – and not necessarily because they require off-road
capabilities.<br />
The Subaru XV on the other hand will appeal to more active drivers,
those who don’t prioritise on space but want an engaging drive, and the
ability to get off the tarmac and do some mild off-the-beaten-track
driving every now and then.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<a href="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/IMG_2594.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-30707" height="348" src="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/IMG_2594.jpg" title="IMG_2594" width="600" /></a></div>
USUALLY, a comfortable and practical car that is ideal for daily
commute is not race track worthy and cars that are made to be driven
hard lose out in terms of comfort and fuel economy. Although there are
many well balanced cars in the market that perform well on both grounds,
they cost a fortune.<br />
But what we have here is the new Suzuki Swift Sport - a very capable
"budget" hot-hatch that is ideal for daily commute and also some
occasional canyon-carving, which costs less than RM110,000.<br />
<a href="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/IMG_2558.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-30708" height="400" src="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/IMG_2558.jpg" title="IMG_2558" width="600" /></a><br />
Launched last June, the new Swift Sport has gone through a few
discreet but significant changes. The 1.6-litre M16A engine has been
tweaked to produce 134hp and 160Nm of torque, which is 9hp and 12Nm more
than the outgoing model. The five-speed gearbox has also been replaced
with a new six-speed transmission.<br />
Besides the increase in power, the car is more fuel efficient than
its predecessor (6.5L/100km), and comes with a firmer suspension set-up.
It is also 5mm wider and 125mm longer. Despite the growth in
dimensions, it is 30kg lighter than the outgoing model, standing at
1,070kg (manual).<br />
<a href="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/IMG_2606.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-30713" height="400" src="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/IMG_2606.jpg" title="IMG_2606" width="600" /></a><br />
Outside, the Swift Sport features full bodykit, side skirts, a
spoiler, a large single-frame grille, bi-xenon headlamps, twin exhaust
pipes and 16-inch wheels, making it look noticeably sportier than the
1.4 variant.<br />
The sporty treatment continues inside as well, with sports seats,
faux-aluminium trim, stainless steel pedals and sporty instrument dials.
As far as safety is concerned, the new Swift Sport comes with six
airbags, ABS, EBD, ESP, full three-point seat belts and Isofix mounts.<br />
<a href="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/IMG_25701.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-30714" height="400" src="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/IMG_25701.jpg" title="IMG_2570" width="600" /></a><br />
On paper, 134hp and 160Nm did not sound like a big deal but after
driving it, we felt that the Swift Sport is anything but dull. It was
not blistering fast but it moved up to speed in a very lively manner,
from low rpm all the way to 7,000rpm.<br />
Regardless of whether it was on the highway or twisty coastal roads,
it was a case of "ask and you shall receive". The car just kept going
every time we pressed the accelerator pedal. The harder we pushed it,
the more eager it was to perform.<br />
<a href="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/IMG_2582.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-30720" height="427" src="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/IMG_2582.jpg" title="IMG_2582" width="400" /></a><br />
What made the Swift Sport such an enjoyable car to drive was the
improved power-to-weight ratio and the firmer suspensions. As light as
it felt, the car handled corners respectably with minimal body roll and
amazing level of grip and composure. The six-speed manual shifter
offered flawless changes as well. However, the steering felt a bit too
light for our liking at times and would have been more engaging if it
felt heavier.<br />
As nippy as it was on the Sepang International Circuit and some
twisty uphill roads, the Swift Sport was a very comfortable and
practical car to be driven in the city. The soft clutch and smooth
gearbox offered effortless driving experience, and we were not even
tired when we were caught in an hour long traffic jam along the Sprint
Highway.<br />
<a href="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/IMG_2567.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-30711" height="400" src="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/IMG_2567.jpg" title="IMG_2567" width="600" /></a><br />
The only thing we did not like about the Swift Sport and the new
Swift (since they are the same physically) was the cramped up boot. It
is more than enough for a person or a couple to store their luggage for a
weekend getaway but it is not going to be easy if you are planning to
go somewhere far with your family of four.<br />
Although luggage space was a little disappointing, five adults could
fit into the car and sit comfortably on long distance trips. Despite
featuring suspensions that are firmer than the normal Swift and previous
Swift Sport, the ride was just as comfortable and not bumpy at all.<br />
<a href="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/IMG_26171.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-30716" height="364" src="http://www.cbt.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/IMG_26171.jpg" title="IMG_2617" width="600" /></a><br />
That said, the new Suzuki Swift Sport is a solid and appealing
all-rounder. While it is an ideal car for daily usage, it is also
tremendous fun when driven hard.<br />

The one-of-a-kind 2013 Hyundai Veloster<span style="color: black;"><a href="http://www.livelifedrive.com/malaysia/new-cars/overview/1186/2013-hyundai-veloster-coupe"></a> has finally landed in Malaysia in three variants: the <b>RM 116,888</b> a Veloster 1.6 Manual, the <b>RM 121, 888</b> </span><span style="color: black;"><span style="color: black;">Veloster 1.6 Automatic</span> and the <b>RM 132,888</b> </span><span style="color: black;"><span style="color: black;">Veloster 1.6 Premium</span>. The OTR with insurance prices include a five-year/300,000km extended warranty, and a 24-hour road assist service. Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors promised us the three-door coupe in the first quarter of 2012, but, like they say, it's better late than never.</span><br />

As if the fluidic sculpture design is not striking enough, the <span style="color: black;">Hyundai Veloster comes with a unique two-plus-one door layout that actually improves interior access rather than just novelty factor. Hyundai
calls it the "style of a coupe and the functionality of a hatchback".
The boot space of 440 litres and the option to split-fold the rear seats
mean that the Veloster is practical when you have luggage to carry.</span><br />

Standard across the Hyundai Veloster range is a smart key with an
engine start/stop button, a 7-inch LCD touch screen, steering
wheel-mounted audio controls, and an integrated six-speaker audio system
with a built-in MP3 function and an auxiliary input. Hyundai's Blue Max
application, once activated, monitors the driving style, and computes a
score that hopefully encourages an eco-friendly manner of driving.<br />
The cabin has seats for four, but none of the variants except the
Premium trim have leather as standard. (It's a RM2000 option for the
others) But the seats are wrapped with stitched leather, accompanied by
matching coloured door linings in the Premium trim, which is also
differentiated by exclusive items including a panoramic sunroof, a
reverse camera, automatic climate control, built-in Bluetooth
capability, and an enhanced loudspeaker system with a centre speaker, a
sub woofer, and an external amplifier.<br />

Outside, the Hyundai Veloster Premium variant is equipped with LED
projection headlamps, one-inch-larger 18-inch alloys and ‘wing-type’ LED
tail lamp. Safety wise, all variants come installed with dual airbags,
ABS, EBD and Brake Assist, but the two automatic variants are the only
to have VSM (vehicle stability management) and HAC (hill-start assist
control) as standard.<br />
The entire Hyundai Veloster range is powered by a naturally-aspirated
1.6-litre Gamma D-CVVT engine that produces peak power of 132 HP at 6300
rpm and maximum torque of 158 Nm at 4850 rpm. Turbocharging and
direction injection, available on the same engine in other countries,
are again not offered to Malaysians. Both the automatic and manual
transmissions have six ratios to play with. Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03311993341237064106noreply@blogger.com0
